Butler University is a private, coeducational university of 3,200 students located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Butler offers an array of professional and preprofessional programs through five degree-granting colleges: Liberal Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Fine Arts, and Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The 190-acre campus, just seven miles from the heart of downtown Indianapolis, is a serenely beautiful area with 20 buildings, athletic fields, a formal botanical garden and nature preserve. Butler’s urban location gives students a wide range of internship opportunities and easy access to cultural, recreational and athletic events. Founded in 1855 by abolitionist Ovid Butler, the university was the first in Indiana and the third in the U.S. to admit women on an equal basis with men, and it was one of the first universities to admit African-American students. |
