Australia Raises Terrorism Threat Level

In response to the current situation in Syria and Iraq and recent arrests of suspected terrorists, Australia has raised its a National Terrorism Public Alert level from medium to high. IFSA-Butler's staff in Australia have alerted students to the possibility of increased security at airports and large events, as well as smaller measures such as sealed garbage cans in public. Our staff are also reinforcing a recommendation to avoid large demonstrations and political rallies.

We do not anticipate that this change in alert level will affect our students' daily lives, and Australian authorities are encouraging the public to go about their normal business. However, IFSA-Butler staff plan to stay in regular contact with students and are available to answer questions about public safety in Australia. We also will alert our students, parents and advisors of any new safety concerns or changes to the alert level.
