IFSA-Butler Announces New President and CEO

The Board of Trustees of the Institute for Study Abroad is pleased to announce that it has named Dr. Mark Scheid the president and CEO of IFSA-Butler.

Dr. Scheid has extensive experience in leadership in the field of education abroad. He joins IFSA-Butler from the Tan Tao University Project in Vietnam, where he has served as president and CEO since 2008. He is also a Fulbright Senior Specialist in higher education structure and administration, acting as consultant to a number of U.S. and international universities.

Peru Resident Director Invited to Give Lecture
Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú's Institute for Philosophical Studies has invited IFSA-Butler's Peru Resident Director Laura Balbuena to be part of a well respected lecture series. The series, titled "In a Different Voice: Women and Philosophy," will be held at the Peruvian-British Cultural Center on March 22. Laura's lecture will be "With a Different Sight: Re-thinking the Philosophical Canon from a Gender Perspective."
IFSA-Butler Peru Office Awarded Recycling Certificate
IFSA-Butler's office in Lima, Peru recently received a certificate from Hewlitt-Packard for its recycling efforts. Congratulations to all our staff who are dedicated to recycling and the environment!
IFSA-Butler Instructor’s Research Gains Worldwide Acclaim

An archaeologist who works closely with IFSA-Butler students in Mexico is gaining worldwide attention for his research and discoveries in the Yucatán. Professor Giullermo de Anda (pictured with students at left) has been featured in National Geographic and numerous Mexican media outlets following his discovery of Mayan temples and pyramids in the in the village of Tahtzibichen. Among the items found were a 1,900-year-old vessel and earthenware and sculptures dated to A.D. 750 to 850.

IFSA-Butler Welcomes New Egypt Resident Director
IFSA-Butler is pleased to announce that Dr. Mohamed El-Komi has accepted the position of Egypt Resident Director. Dr. El-Komi has spent considerable time in the United States after earning his PhD in linguistics at the University of South Carolina. Dr. El-Komi has extensive experience working with students, as well as a background in second language acquisition.

Dr. El-Komi will be based in Cairo and will oversee the opening of IFSA-Butler's new Egypt University Programs when they open for the spring 2010 semester. Welcome Dr. El-Komi!
