Arrival and orientation

  • Airport pick-up
  • 4-day on-site orientation for semester/year students: Includes transportation, accommodation, activities, information sessions and meals
  • Welcome meal
  • Orientation takes advantage of Sydney's countless cultural attractions while also giving students a chance to experience beach life in Australia
  • Orientation takes place at Narrabeen Lake. Activities include bushwalking, Aussie barbecue, indigenous presentation and surf lesson at nearby Colloroy Beach.
  • Harbour cruise and sightseeing excursions to some of Sydney's famous landmarks, including the Opera House
  • Transportation to host university city and accommodation at conclusion of orientation

Cultural and sporting events

  • Students have one cultural or sporting event during the semester. Past events have included a National Rugby League game, Australian Football League game, sea kayaking, snorkeling, and a theatre or music performance

Excursions

  • Students choose between a 2-day adventure weekend or a country life weekend
  • Adventure weekend includes rock climbing and/or repelling, hiking, sightseeing, trivia night, Aussie movie night
  • Country life weekend may include farm tour, bushwalking, star gazing, BBQs, basic involvement in farm activities, animal spotting, hanging out with a local family

Other activities

  • Free cell phone with a great calling rates
  • Afternoon teas, pizza afternoons and regular campus visits by IFSA-Butler student service coordinators
  • 2 events on campus: May include morning/afternoon tea or pizza lunch
  • Program T-shirt (designed by a student)
  • Farewell celebration and meal with slideshow presentation
