The Birkbeck internship involves a work assignment two full days a week or a minimum of 16 hours each week. A coordinator at Birkbeck arranges your placement, which is subject to a successful interview after your arrival in London. Some of the most common internships are in arts management, business, media and communications and politics. The internship replaces one of your courses at Birkbeck.

You will take a tutorial course and prepare a related academic research project that will be assessed by a Birkbeck faculty member. Your academic project carries most of the weight in determining your final grade.

Internships are not a standard part of the British university and business systems. While an internship can provide valuable exposure to your chosen field in an international setting, keep in mind that as a newcomer to a business or organization, you will be expected to perform entry-level tasks.
