Katarina Young

“I joined IFSA to be a part of a global educational institution that will allow me to grow professionally by learning from other global educators on how to manage and develop a higher learning program in a local setting. I hope to utilize such a “glocal” approach to support local staff and students.”

Education

Katerina earned a bachelor’s degree in English and German philology from Palacky University, Olomouc, Czech Republic. She went on to Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, where she earned her graduate degree in English education and later became a certified English and ESL teacher in the U.S. public schools. She received her doctorate in language assessment and testing from the University of Leicester in the UK in 2021.

Travel Experience

During her undergraduate studies, Katerina was a foreign exchange student in the U.S. for one year after the end of the Cold War in the 1990s. At that time, the world she grew up in and the Western world were very different, resulting in true “cultural shock” when she arrived in America. Later, in the U.S., she lived and taught in seven different states. She has also lived in Istanbul, Turkey, for more than four years and is where her daughter was born.

Did You Know?

Katerina is always up for trying out a new recipe as she loves to experiment with different types of cuisine and desserts.
