As an IFSA-Butler Ambassador, your role will be to advocate for the merits of studying abroad (and studying abroad through IFSA-Butler) on your campus. You're probably already doing this, so this is a way to formalize—and get paid for—your encouragement to other students. The expectations of you as an IFSA-Butler Global Ambassador include:
- Meet with the IFSA-Butler field director in your region when she or he comes to your campus in the fall and spring, and help with any on-campus study abroad fairs or displays.
- Complete two events of your own during the course of the semester. We encourage creativity in selecting events. Examples of possible events include, but are not limited to:
- Give a presentation to prospective students on campus that tells the story of your study abroad experience
- Make a presentation to a relevant class (i.e. International Business, Global Economics)
- Set up an info table in your student union by yourself for a few hours
- Share your experiences with students at your home college's study abroad predeparture orientation
- Write an article for your school newspaper
- Put together and display a photo exhibit documenting your time abroad
- Hold an information session at your study abroad office
- Present at an info session with an IFSA-Butler representative
- Organize a "meet and greet" or other social event between you and other IFSA-Butler alum, prospective students and future students
- Join and participate in IFSA's Ambassador Group on Facebook
The program is not only meant to encourage international study, but to provide you with an outlet to build professional development skills, and to evaluate and more effectively communicate your own study abroad experience.
To be eligible as a Global Ambassador, you must:
- Be a past participant in an IFSA-Butler program
- Be in good standing upon completion of your program
- Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate at your home campus
- Be capable of working independently
- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Possess a high degree of enthusiasm about study abroad
Now, what do you receive in return for being an IFSA-Butler Global Ambassador? Here are some of the benefits:
- Engage with your classmates and encourage them to have the once-in-a-lifetime experience abroad that you had.
- Gain valuable professional skills through your marketing efforts and on-campus presentation.
- Add a leadership role to your resume that will help you stand out from your peers. You may even gain some valuable references from the experience!
- A stipend for the semester. Ambassadors receive $150 per semester. Additional funds will be distributed for activities, events and presentations that are above and beyond the expectations stated above.
We sincerely hope this is an opportunity that interests and excites you, and that you will join IFSA-Butler as a Global Ambassador. To apply, click the button on the right » |
