Study Abroad Orientation & Excursions in Argentina

Argentine Universities Program and Area Studies in Buenos Aires

Arrival and orientation

  • Airport pick-up for students who meet our staff at the airport meeting point during the established time frame.
  • On-site orientation for semester/year students includes sessions on academics, health and safety, housing, visa/residence procedures, etc.
  • Introduction to Argentine culture and living in Buenos Aires
  • Discussion of academic differences, expectations and course registration
  • IFSA-Butler staff-led sessions on academics, living with a host family, integrating into the host university and more
  • Information sessions on safety, security, health and wellness

Cultural events such as

  • Music concerts
  • Theatrical productions
  • Rugby and soccer matches
  • Argentine film screenings
  • Urban biking and canoe trip
  • Tango classes
  • Cooking classes
  • Museum tours

Excursions

  • Three-day excursion to a destination such as Colonia, Uruguay; Punta del Este, Uruguay; or Rosario, Argentina

Activities organized by program classes or concentration

  • Visit to Museo Eva Perón (Peronist Argentina class)
  • Visit to national Congreso and CGT (Directed Research)
  • Visit to Parque de la Memoria, ESMA and El Olimpo (Human Rights)
  • Screenings and conferences at the Buenos Aires Independent Film Festival or a trip to the Mar del Plata International Film Festival (Cinema in Argentina)
  • Visit to MALBA, MAMBA, MACBA, Mueso Nacional de Bellas Artes and other art exhibits (Arte y Politica en la Argentina Contemporánea)

Other activities

  • Special occasion and special interest meals throughout the year
  • Thanksgiving celebration (semester 2)
  • Welcome meal

Mendoza Universities Program

Previous excursions included, but were not limited to:

Arrival and orientation

  • Three-day orientation in the capital city of Buenos Aires. Includes a welcome meal, informational meetings, two-night hotel stay, sightseeing tour and most meals.
  • Airport pick-up in Buenos Aires for group flight travelers (when available)
  • Prebooked flight from Buenos Aires to Mendoza included in the program fee**
  • Ten-day, on-site orientation in Mendoza includes informational meetings, city and university tours, assistance with course selection and registration, and fun activities

**Airfare from Mendoza to Buenos Aires at the end of the program is not included in the program fee. Students are responsible for booking and paying for their return trip to Buenos Aires.

  • City of Mendoza guided tour
  • Visit to numerous area vineyards
  • Main city square pedestrian guided tour
  • Annual wine harvest festival (semester 1)
  • Music and theatre production
  • Visit to winery: Includes wine tasting and lunch

Excursions

  • Program orientation begins in Buenos Aires, which includes sightseeing and social events
  • Two-day trip to Cacheuta: Includes trekking and hiking in the mountains and rafting in Río Mendoza
  • Sailing and kayaking in Potrerillos' dam
