Most are at the top of the rankings in their respective countries, and some are among the most renowned educational institutions in the world. top Integrated study experiences Merely affiliating with a university is not enough for IFSA-Butler. Most of our programs allow students to fully enroll in their host university and take classes with degree students. IFSA-Butler students are entitled to join any university organization or society and are even eligible for university sports teams in most cases. top Medical insurance coverage for students For even more peace of mind during your year, semester or summer abroad, the IFSA-Butler program fee includes comprehensive medical insurance coverage. Click here for more information. top Greater choices for students More than 90 institutions spread across 15 countries create abundant choices for students. Whether a student is looking for an unusual subject, wheelchair-access housing or flexible semester dates, our program advisors will do their best to find a university that can meet a student’s needs. top U.S. based, hassle-free preparations Our toll-free telephone and U.S. location save students from the hassle of expensive phone calls, international postage, and long waits for sending and receiving paperwork. A U.S. location also means that students can transfer many forms of financial aid to IFSA-Butler to help fund their study abroad experience. top Fully staffed offices abroad We maintain a fully staffed office in each of the countries where we have programs. Our on-site staff are enthusiastic, knowledgeable professionals who help students adjust to the academic and cultural differences of their host countries. Their jobs incorporate an impressive variety of student services, which can range from helping students solve academic problems to lending a sympathetic ear for the occasional bout of homesickness to responding to student emergencies. top Emergency assistance Our orientations and publications teach students how to receive emergency help abroad, and our on-site staff are available to provide emergency assistance to students. Each office has an emergency communications system, usually in the form of a pager. The offices provide these and other emergency numbers on laminated wallet cards that are distributed at orientation. top Knowledgeable program advisors All of our program advisors have studied abroad and are the backbone of our predeparture student services. Each advisor specializes in certain universities abroad and serves as a student’s main resource for academic and program inquiries. Even students who have not yet applied to an IFSA-Butler program are welcome to call our advisors to discuss various study abroad options. top Guaranteed housing We guarantee housing for all students in all programs while classes are in session. Students in Spanish-speaking countries live with carefully screened host families, and we assign only one student to each family. top Specialized programs without integration For the student who is intimidated by the idea of fully integrated academics and housing abroad, IFSA-Butler offers summer programs, intermediate Spanish language programs and Birkbeck, University of London. These non-integrated opportunities offer courses taught by regular university faculty and the same IFSA-Butler student services, but courses and housing are for IFSA-Butler students only. top Butler University transcript Each IFSA-Butler participant will receive his or her study abroad grades on a Butler University transcript. Having a U.S. university transcript eases the transfer of grades and credits to the student’s home university. top IFSA-Butler on-site orientations IFSA-Butler provides a full orientation in each host country. Activities appropriate to each country help prepare students for the academic and cultural changes that await them. Staff in each of our offices abroad are knowledgeable about the academic requirements and course credit details of each university in their respective countries, and they use orientation as an opportunity to share this information with students. Other orientation topics include health, security and safety details, money and banking issues, and information on diversity and special interests. top Arrangements for students with disabilities IFSA-Butler is happy to investigate university and housing options for students with physical or learning disabilities. Arrangements are not possible at every site, but our staff do their best to find a good match for a student with disabilities or other special needs. top Optional group flights for most programs IFSA-Butler works closely with a travel agent to find convenient and affordable international flights. We offer airport reception and transportation for group flight travelers to the orientation site. top Internships, volunteer and service learning opportunities Do more abroad! Many of our programs include internship, volunteer and service learning programs. For more information, see our pages on Internships, volunteering and service learning opportunities. top
