Blog Post 10: 6/14/16
The past few weeks have been pretty crazy with schoolwork (putting off all of my assignments this semester actually turned out to be a horrible idea..), I finished my last day of classes a week and a half ago, so all I have to do is put off more studying until the very last minute! Kidding, but in all seriousness I have 4 final exams spread out throughout an ENTIRE MONTH. I’m excited to get lots of traveling done between study sessions! Let me get you caught up on what I have been up to:
I have also been exploring different areas of the city. I really love Parnell. I tend to walk or run around the area with friends because there are many different walks through both the streets and wooded/garden areas (also there are more dogs here than anywhere else I have been in NZ). The viaduct is another one of my favourite city locations. It’s the harbour and has GORGEOUS boats, fancy restaurants, and really fun bars. It’s a great place to go for a nice jog. The Auckland Art Gallery is great as well. Admission is free, and it has exhibitions that change frequently. The Auckland Domain is another Auckland must see. I recently went to the Auckland Domain Wintergardens with a friend. If you get a chance to, go check out the Auckland sky tower in the centre! IFSA took us there for a 3-course dinner at the Orbit 360degree rotating restaurant. The food and the views were AMAZING.
I also went to my first local island, Motutapu. On Motutapu, The IFSA group and I did a community service project and planted trees. Although it was pretty rainy on and off, I still had a great time planting trees and bonding with IFSA people. We also went to a professional rugby match. We watched the Auckland Blues play the Melbourne Rebels, and we actually won (apparently Auckland’s team isn’t the best)!
I finally made my way out to Hobbition! Hobbiton is The Shire from Lord of the Rings. It was such a cool place. We got to see all of the hobbit holes, learn about the film and set design, and have a free beer at the Green Dragon!
Last week I went to Sydney, Australia. It was my first time traveling alone and I survived! More on that in my next post.
