Vice President for Academic Affairs

The Institute for Study Abroad (IFSA) seeks a dynamic, innovative educator to join our team as Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA). This position provides a unique opportunity to shape an evolving organization and the long-term impact of education abroad on participants.

The VPAA provides academic leadership for IFSA by: overseeing the academic quality of programs; overseeing the development, assessment, and improvement of IFSA-taught curricula; developing and ensuring adherence to academic policies and procedures; and liaising with sending and host institutions. The VPAA provides leadership and direction in the development and implementation of short- and long-term departmental goals that align with the organization’s strategic vision, including its commitments to diversity and inclusion, intercultural learning, and enhancing the outcomes of education abroad experiences. The VPAA reports to the President and CEO and serves on the executive leadership team. This position is based in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The qualified individual will possess the talent, drive and expertise to lead IFSA’s academic initiatives while ensuring continued adherence to high-quality instructional standards and professional practice. The full position description with detailed responsibilities can be found here.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Advanced/terminal degree
  • Experience working with and/or teaching postsecondary education students
  • Experience working with faculty
  • Curriculum development experience
  • At least five years of supervisory or leadership experience

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of the U.S. educational system and degree plans, knowledge of educational systems worldwide
  • Familiarity with study abroad for U.S. undergraduate students
  • Proficiency with teaching and learning strategies, familiarity with academic advising strategies
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders from diverse communities and cultures
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to execute time-sensitive projects successfully
  • Evidence of superior interpersonal, presentation, and writing skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts to audiences of various knowledge levels and backgrounds
  • Evidence of innovation and initiative in prior work, including the ability to propose and implement strategies to support organizational priorities
  • Must have the legal right to work in the U.S.

Program Coordinator

Position Overview

The Program Coordinator is a nonexempt role responsible for supporting IFSA programs abroad and contributing to the development of the organization’s program portfolio, while maintaining high standards of programmatic excellence and operational efficiency. This role will provide support to the Program Management and Development team through administrative operations essential to the management of existing programs. Routine tasks and checklists are integral responsibilities, as are juggling competing priorities and pivoting to resolve problems as they arise.  This position is located in Indianapolis, Indiana and reports to the Assistant Director of Program Management and Development. The full position description with detailed responsibilities can be found here.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Minimum 2 to 4 years in administrative or data-focused role
  • Experience in international education and/or higher education preferred

Director, London Global Flagship and England/Wales Programs

This position provides a unique opportunity to shape the evolution of a strategic site and the long-term impact of education abroad on participants. IFSA was founded in 1988 as a provider of study abroad programming for U.S. undergraduates. The Director, London Global Flagship and England/Wales Programs is responsible for the strategic development and leadership of all IFSA sites in England and Wales: overseeing the team’s day-to-day program administration; providing academic and cultural support to students; relationship management with host universities and other partners; and overseeing the development and evolution of academic curriculum, and co-curriculum. The Director has additional responsibility for our Global Flagship Site Strategy, planning and execution. This position works closely with the U.S. based Program Management and Development and Academic Affairs teams; other England and Wales staff; and other Global Flagship leaders on all aspects of program management. Based in London, England, the Director reports to the Vice President, Program Management and Development.

Requirements, Education and Work Experience

  • Advanced degree required; terminal degree preferred
  • At least five years of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Minimum of ten years of progressively-responsible higher education administration experience; study abroad industry experience preferred
  • At least three years of work experience in the UK
  • Experience working with instructors as well as working with and/or teaching postsecondary education students
  • Curriculum development experience; deep knowledge of higher education systems and environments
  • Evidence of superior interpersonal, presentation, and writing skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts to audiences of various knowledge levels, cultures and  backgrounds Evidence of innovation and initiative in prior work, including the ability to propose and implement strategies to support organizational priorities
  • Must have legal right to work in England

Resident Director, Barcelona

The Institute for Study Abroad (IFSA) seeks an experienced educator to serve as Resident Director (RD) for our Barcelona programs. This individual provides leadership and direction for our varied operations in Barcelona that align with the organization’s strategic vision, including its commitments to diversity and inclusion, intercultural learning, and enhancing the outcomes of education abroad experiences. This position addresses institutional relationship building, student mentorship, administrative tasks, and more, with diplomacy, flexibility, resourcefulness, and strong attention to detail.

The Resident Director will represent IFSA in Barcelona, including maintaining and building relationships with local universities and educational providers.  This role will contribute leadership and vision to the development of strategic priorities for the organization, as well as supporting students of all backgrounds, abilities and perspectives in meeting their academic, professional and personal goals while in Spain.  This role will assist with financial reporting and budgeting.

This position will have an integral role in maintaining the standards of quality across programs, including semester and short-term, customized programs, orientations and co-curricular activities.  The Resident Director will identify, propose, and implement strategies that improve quality, reduce costs, streamline processes, enhance the student experience, and maximize the marketability of programs

Additionally, the RD must understand US and Spanish regulations relating to US students and visitors in Spain, and guide students appropriately and in compliance with all IFSA policies.

Education and Work Experience

  • Master’s degree, or Bachelor’s degree combined with commensurate experience required; Doctorate preferred. Academic work in relevant area of study helpful (i.e. International Education).
  • Demonstrated track record with education program development, management, and improvement

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Near-native fluency in English and Spanish, including the ability to speak Spanish using non-gender specific articles, adjectives and pronouns; Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Deep knowledge of higher education and education abroad environments
  • A positive attitude and flexibility toward evolving responsibilities in a growing organization
  • Ability to relate to and support students with diverse lived experiences including students of color, students with mental and physical disabilities, first-generation college students, and LGBTQ+ students

Travel & Physical Abilities Required

  • Required to walk and stand for long periods of time, often outdoors in the heat
