About Engineering and Irish Studies

Combine your passion for engineering with a journey into Irish culture! Deepen your skills in electrical or mechanical engineering, and immerse yourself in Irish language and culture. Hands-on learning opportunities abound - from a weeklong stay in an Irish village, tours of sites of engineering interest, to building trebuchets.

Engineering and Irish Studies Benefits

  • Students take an Irish Studies course and choose one of two engineering courses
  • Ulster University offers outstanding programs in engineering taught by engineering faculty
  • Students will travel all over Northern Irland as part of their Irish Studies course (including a Game of Thrones tour!)

Course Restrictions
Students attending this program are required to take two courses for credit and to complete all required work.
After you return to the U.S., IFSA will send a Butler University transcript to your home university and to your permanent address. The transcript reflects the courses taken, credits attempted, and grades earned during your term abroad. This service is included in your study abroad program at no additional cost

Housing & Meals

Housing Type
Residence Hall/Dormitory
Students are responsible for preparing or purchasing their own meals. Residences include kitchens, and there are grocery stores, cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Bed linens, including duvet and pillow, are provided. Towels are provided, but students will need to provide their own washcloths.
