Site Seminar – Sri Lanka

Experience IFSA Sri Lanka

Explore the Intercollegiate Sri Lanka Education (ISLE) program during our site seminar to Kandy, Sri Lanka, March 2-6, 2020. This seminar will engage you as a cultural learner, utilizing our Exploring Community & Culture framework to introduce local life through a socio-historical lens.

You’ll experience firsthand our learning framework, appreciative advising, learning communities, and how our objectives embody Future-Focused Study Abroad in our programs.

In addition to learning more about the country and culture of Sri Lanka, you’ll have the opportunity to see and experience all aspects of the ISLE program. This includes examining the independent study component, a hallmark of the ISLE program, which for more than 30 years has provided students unique research opportunities.

Engage in a collaborative learning experience with colleagues as we discuss new opportunities and mutual challenges, and reflect on how to make study in Sri Lanka a meaningful experience for your students.

Special Faculty Offer

Our partner institutions report that engaging faculty in understanding and promoting the ISLE program has been instrumental to its success on campus. With that in mind, we are offering two special incentives to faculty members who apply to attend the Sri Lanka site seminar (in addition to or in lieu of a study abroad professional):

$500 TRAVEL GRANT

Accepted faculty members qualify for a $500 travel grant applicable toward a flight booked through our travel partner, STA Travel. The travel grant must be used to defray the cost of travel to and from the Sri Lanka site seminar.

$2,000 STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Any students from the accepted faculty member’s institution who attend the ISLE program for the fall 2020, spring 2021, or fall 2021 semester will receive a $2,000 scholarship. The faculty member must attend the site seminar in order for the institution and the students to qualify.

Reactions & Reviews

International educators’ comments from previous IFSA Experience site seminars.

EXPERIENCE IFSA MEXICO – 2019

“The C+C course is a very well designed course. I was most surprised with the learning objectives and the way the course appears to be taught by the Resident Director. This particular course and the methodologies of its teaching can make for a rewarding and impactful experience. It is also an opportunity for students to ‘connect the dots’ across their coursework and experiences in Mérida.”

Luis Legaspi
University of California at San Diego

“The Merida program has fantastic staff on-site that connect well with the students. Most students have reservations of going to a new place where they don’t know anyone. I believe it is important to highlight the programs ability to connect with the students, as well as the efforts to helping the students connect with the community around them.”

EXPERIENCE IFSA PRAGUE – 2019

“The size of both Prague and Prague College is a strength. What a wonderful unique experience both would be to someone coming from a large public campus and from a large city in the U.S.”

Kelly O’Sullivan Sommer
University of California at San Diego

“Jana (Zalska, Resident Director)! Small classes. Great support. All of the great things IFSA does.”

Jessica Fetridge
