I consider myself extremely lucky to be a part of the IFSA-Butler family. From the time I was a student in London on an IFSA-Butler program in college to my current role as Assistant Vice President for University Relations, IFSA-Butler has changed my life and inspired me to make study abroad a possibility for every student. Growing up in a small town in Indiana, I never dreamed that I would have the opportunity to study abroad during college. IFSA-Butler equipped me with the skills and support I needed to make my experience a success, as well as providing me a life-changing experience that I will never forget. Because of this, I want to pay it forward and show students how living and learning in another country can influence your life and make a life-long impact as it did for me.

When I was a Senior Program Advisor, I used to assist our New Zealand staff in running our onsite orientations. I truly enjoyed familiarizing students to their new environments and watching the impact that the IFSA-Butler orientation had on students. During our orientation, we take students to a Marae to spend an entire day to interact with the community and experience Maori culture. The students were able to speak with elders in the community, as well as connect with young children on the Marae. After spending an entire day and night on the Marae, students came away feeling so touched by the Maori culture that they changed their course registration on campus to incorporate some kind of Maori course. That is when I knew that what we were doing at IFSA-Butler was so inspiring to students and confirmed that I was in the best line of work imaginable.
