Throughout my worldwide travels, I have experienced some of the most breathtaking places on this planet, and met some of the kindest, most generous people imaginable. I have always wanted to be able to give back in some way, and my path has lead me to international education. Through IFSA, I have the opportunity to inspire others to also step outside their comfort zones, to study abroad, to experience difference through new cultures and new people, and to ultimately see how incredible this world of ours really is.
Prior to IFSA
Beck has been working in international education since 1999, with both incoming international students to North America, as well as outgoing domestic students in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Europe, and the US, involved in cultural exchange and study abroad programs. Before coming to IFSA, Beck was completing her Masters degree, whilst working full-time as the Study Abroad Advisor at Wesleyan University.
Beck completed her undergraduate degree at the Australian National University in Canberra, double majoring in psychology and receiving First Class Honors for her final thesis. She also holds a Masters of Counseling from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, where she majored in Higher Education Administration, with a strong focus on international education. Her Masters thesis was titled Bringing it home: A systematic review of factors affecting reverse culture shock in college students returning from study abroad. Beck has also completed post-graduate diplomas in Sports Psychology and Professional Photography.
Beck has been traveling the globe for the past 19 years. Her first solo trip abroad was to the US, where she found herself working as a camp counselor at a YMCA camp in Connecticut. The amazing international staff she met there inspired her to learn more about other cultures, and to travel the world to see firsthand people who were different to her. Since then, Beck has travelled to over 130 countries (all seven continents), and lived in nine of those countries. She has travelled to every country in which IFSA programs exist, and plans to visit at least one new country every year until she's super old.
Did You Know?
Beck is a die-hard Australian Rules Football fan, barracking (rooting) for the Essendon Bombers since the day she was born. She gets up before the sun rises most weekends to watch the games stream live ('Carn the Bombers!).
