I am a professional student at heart – so my career in international educational exchanges has helped me continually learn, grow, and mature into the person I am today. I enjoy walking down similar paths with my students, supporting their learning and development abroad. I have the best job in the world—helping students realize their goals so they can make the world a better place for us all.

Prior to IFSA

MT joins IFSA with over 25 years of experience in international educational exchange. Recently, she served as the Director of Study Abroad at the George Washington University. Prior to that, she worked at CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange) in senior leadership roles.  She has taught in Spain, Portugal, Russia, and the U.S. While living in Seville, Spain, she served as the U.S. Department of State’s Consular Agent for Western Andalusia.

Maritheresa (MT) completed her undergraduate work in International Politics at The Pennsylvania State University and received her M.A. and Ph.D. in International Relations at Georgetown University.

Travel Experience

MT first studied abroad in Salamanca, Spain as a Penn State undergrad. She conducted her doctoral research in Portugal. She lived outside the U.S. for more than 25 years in Spain, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, and Greece. MT travels extensively, recently adding a “sola” trip to Rapa Nui (Easter Island).
